The eight Belts
The Senwitt Path uses a martial-arts-inspired Belt system. Each Belt unlocks at a minimum sustained Sharpness across categories — not by completing a particular test or scoring above a threshold on a single day.

A short history of the Belt system
The coloured belt as a rank signal traces back to Jigoro Kano's judo system in late 19th-century Japan. Kano introduced the black-belt rank (dan) and the white-to-black coloured-belt progression (kyu) for students working toward it. Mikonosuke Kawaishi, a judo teacher in 1930s Paris, is credited with introducing the wider colour gradient now familiar in Western dojos — yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, brown — to give beginners more visible milestones along the long road to black belt.
That design decision — more visible milestones for early students — is the part Senwitt borrows directly. The point is not authenticity to any martial-arts tradition. It is the underlying psychology: a long journey is easier to sustain when there are visible, frequent, durable markers along the way. Apple Watch's activity rings make a similar bet at the daily level; Belts make it at the months-and-years level.
How streaks fit in
A streak is the count of consecutive days you completed your Set. Streaks are part of the Path because consistency is the entire point of brain exercise. They are deliberately quiet — no streak-shaming alerts, no late-night notifications begging you not to break it. If a day slips, the next day still counts. The Senwitt Path is built for long-term practice, not panic.
The streak design follows the lessons Duolingo wrote about publicly when they redesigned their own streak surface (Duolingo Streak Society): aggressive streak guilt produced disengagement at scale, and friendlier mechanics — streak forgiveness, no destructive notifications — preserved the motivational pull without the toxic edge. Senwitt does not implement streak freezes or paid streak repair: missed days reset the count cleanly, but nothing else collapses with them.
What Belts are not
A Belt is a habit signal, not a credential. It does not certify cognitive ability and it is not designed to be compared across people. Two users with the same Belt may have very different Skill profiles. The Belt only tells you that your daily practice has sustained across categories long enough for the next rank to unlock inside Senwitt.
Belts also do not expire. If you take a long break and come back, your Belt is where you left it. The Sharpness signal underneath will have softened — that is what reflects current practice level — but the Belt itself records work already done, not the activity of this week. That is closer to how a real martial-arts rank functions than to how a typical app's "level" functions.
No leaderboards. No ranks against other users.
Senwitt does not have a global leaderboard. Belt rank is not shown next to anyone else's. Friend-vs-friend competition is not built in. This is the opposite design choice from Strava's segment leaderboards or Duolingo's weekly leagues, both of which we considered. The reason is what the product is for: this is daily practice, not athletic competition. Competing on it changes why you show up, and the wrong "why" produces the wrong habit.
Not brain training. Brain exercise.
Senwitt is a daily brain exercise app, not a brain training program. We do not claim to improve general cognition, prevent cognitive decline, or treat any condition. Independent scientific consensus — the 2014 Stanford Center on Longevity / Max Planck Institute statement signed by 70 neuroscientists, the 2016 Simons et al. review in Psychological Science in the Public Interest, and the FTC's 2016 settlement with Lumos Labs — has concluded that “brain training” claims are not supported by the evidence. Senwitt is built on a different premise: skills you actively practice get sharper; skills you stop practicing fade.
